Missions for Week 1 Orient

Mission 1

Fill in the Google registration form


Register for EVO Minecraft MOOC using our Google Form for 2023

What should you be doing?

Assemble the following information

  1. Your real name and where you’re from
  2. Please provide a link to one of your web or social media profiles, or to your introduction to our community  in one of our networks
  3. Your Minecraft player name (known or intended)
    You'll need to obtain a valid Minecraft user name  in order for us to whitelist you on our MC server;
    more information at 2023_how2joinUs
  4. Your level of experience with Minecraft (ranging from “noob” to expert)
  5. A link to where you will track your learning journey (e.g. EVO minecraft mooc facebook, discord, padlet, a wiki, blog, or ePortfolio)
  6. Your Twitter handle (if you have one)
  7. Your Discord ID (see Mission 3)


How can you verify this mission accomplished?

A field with your data will appear in our dBase linked to the Google form, so we'll know when you've registered

When you have registered and obtained a Minecraft id, we can whitelist you on our server 


What you can do if your application is not accepted 

We accept people requesting to join us when their profiles suggest that the applicant is

(1) representing his or her real identity, and

(2) is connected in some way with education.

When we suspect from what we can see in a user's profile that one or both of these is not the case we might reject the application.


We accept join requests from educators (and sometimes their students and/or their children) whose profiles appear to link to identifiable people who could become potential colleagues as opposed to gamers apparently using pseudonyms, and whose reasons for joining us would likely be incompatible with our goals and passions, which relate to gamification in education, not just playing Minecraft for hedonistic reasons. As we are a community of practice interested in assisting each other in using Minecraft creatively and constructively with students, we might reject profiles that appear irrelevant to our goals or indicate no evidence of shared aspirations. 


If you are a bona fide educator wishing to join us, and for some reason we reject your application to join us, please send an email to the primary contact given in the proposal, explaining why you feel you fit in with our community, and we'll sort it out.

Join us in Minecraft

Once we have you registered we can whitelist you on our server.



So we can play together in Minecraft and learn how to use it with students


What should you be doing?


Purchase your login to Minecraft from Mojang http://minecraft.net
Be sure and get the Java version, more information at 2023_how2joinUs

All software downloads including server software and client software multiple devices are free;
you pay around $30 for your unique login credential (to Mojang, not to us)
We can only use emeralds and diamonds which we get by mining and trading with villagers in Minecraft

Mission 3

Install Discord and Join our game chat space (EVO Minecraft)


We use this app to communicate in voice during our in-world Minecraft sessions.

We also use it to share information and converse in this powerful and games oriented social networking space.


How can you do this?

  • If you have a discord account and know how to use it, join EVO Minecraft in DIscord

  • Follow the instructions there and tell us who you are and what brings you to Minecraft

  • After joining, you can create an introduction there (in case you aren't on Facebook, or want to use your post as your intro link in the registration form) 
  • This is where you can get help and a personal answer to any questions you might have
    (Teacher Vance, Bobbi Bear, and others are standing by here to help)
