Missions for Week 4 Cluster

Mon Jan 30 through Sun Feb 05, 2023

The 4th week of EVO Minecraft MOOC is 🅲🅻🆄🆂🆃🅴🆁!
🎯 Clustering means to find your interest group based on your own learning needs and interests that you have already identified in the beginning of this journey. In Week 4, find other educators with similar interests or with more experience to help you achieve them.

We cluster and work on small projects with a small group of like-minded participants. I have observed that we have people working on 1) building university campuses comparing NTUE campus to U of Penn red brick buildings, enabling university students to introduce the history of their campus in English, 2) another group of participants working on Sustainable Development Goals Minecraft English lesson planning with focus on "Life on Land" and "Life below water" CEFR A1 lessons, 3) exploring "Minetest" Blocky server, an open source free Minecraft-like virtual world, and 4) generating Minecraft for ELT book chapter ideas! Wonderful! Please Do share your progress with us and invite us to join you in-world!

I've come across this interesting article "Mining Educational Implications of Minecraft." Here's the last part of the abstract with challenges using Minecraft in the classroom.

Mission 10 -  Minecraft Language Pedagogy Reflection

𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘃𝘀. 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀?
"Challenges with using Minecraft in the classroom include the lack of focused learning objectives, inflexible curriculum, and no previous gaming skills. Nevertheless, Minecraft holds potential for game-based teaching and learning. Successful integration of Minecraft into the teaching and learning environments requires teacher-centeredness versus learner-centeredness." Please read the following open access article entitled "Mining Educational Implications of Minecraft" by Youngkyun Baek, Ellen Min, & Seongchul Yun (2020) and participate in our discussions on EVO Minecraft MOOC facebook
